Ama Aduonum Professor of Music Illinois State University Tuesday, March 3, 2020 - 3:00pm Ramsey Hall Ama Aduonum, Professor of Music from Illinois State University will deliver African Studies Spring Lecture on March 3, 2020. Aduonum, Ama Ethnomusicologist, storyteller, choreographer, and activist. Professor Ama Oforiwaa Aduonum teaches classes in Black Music, Ethnomusicology, and directs the African drumming and dance ensemble at Illinois State University. She has published scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals, encyclopedias, in a book, and she has presented at conferences in Germany, Ghana, Brazil, Hawaii, Alaska, and in other parts of the United States of America. As a storyteller, choreographer, a nationally-recognized playwright and performer/scholar, and activist, Aduonum demonstrates how scholarly work and artmaking, how research and the artistic can converge. She pushes the boundaries of ethnomusicological praxis to suggest what a 21st century ethnomusicologist can be and do.
